San Diego County Police Departments

San Diego is known as the birth place of California because Father Junipero Serra established the Mission San Diego de Alcala in 1769. San Diego County has over 2.7 million residents.  The county encompasses 4,255 square miles, including the city of San Diego, as well as 17 incorporated cities:  Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, Oceanside, Poway, San Marcos, Santee, Solano Beach and Vista.

San Diego draws residents for its weather. The average daytime temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit with most days sunny and clear.  In addition to the beautiful weather, there is over 70 miles of beaches to enjoy year round.

The main attractions found in San Diego County includes Old Town State Park, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, SeaWorld, Old Globe Theater, and Balboa Park with 13 museums, Japanese gardens and an organ pavilion.  

The City of San Diego is the 6th largest city in California with a city population of over 1.2 million.  The city is called "America's Finest City."

The law enforcement for San Diego County consists of CHP (California Highway Patrol), Sheriff's Departments and Municipal Police Departments.  There are 9 police departments in San Diego County with thelargest being the San Diego Police Department.  The San Diego Police Department has over 2,781 employees and 840 volunteers.  There are 1,834 sworn officers.
