Imperial County Sheriff's Department

Imperial County is located in the Imperial Valley, the far southeast of California, bordering both Arizona and the Mexican State of Baja, California.  It is part of the Southern California border region.  Imperial is the smallest, but most economically diverse region in the state.  The county was the last to be established in California in 1907. 

The approximate population of the County is 174,528 and it encompasses close to 4,284 square miles.  The region has seven cities which include, Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, Holtville, Imperial, Westmoreland and El Centro, the county seat.  There is also eight unincorporated communities which are, Bombay Beach, Heber, Niland, Ocotillo, Palo Verde, Salton City, Seeley and Winterhaven.

The County is a rich agricultural area, which produces half of our nation's winter vegetables.  The area also boasts an extensive amount of renewable resources including, geothermal, wind and solar.  Within Imperial County, you can find the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, Fort Yuma, Blue Angels, Algodones Sand Dunes, Colorado River, Salvation Mountain, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Fossil Canyon & Painted Gorge.

Approximately 80% of the county's population is Hispanic, with the vast majority being of Mexican origin.  Currently, El Centro has one of the highest unemployment rates in the United States and ranks one of California's poorest counties. 

The Imperial County Sheriff's Department is led by Sheriff Raymond Loera who also serves as the County Coroner and Marshall.  There is one main station and five substations located throughout the county.  The six locations are listed below.
